Gemma Wheeler Architecture
I’ve watched Gemma’s brilliant videos from the start of her YouTube journey, and I’m so pleased to see the channel flourishing. Her established architectural practice specialises in small, awkward and unusual buildings, working with clients in the UK and now all corners of the globe.
Subscribing to the channel was a blessing in disguise. The subsequently tweaked YouTube algorithm along with Gemma’s regular videos reignited a fire within and after a conversation in 2024 The Room Within could no longer lay dormant as just a domain name and daydream. Thanks Gemma!
Minimalist Micro Stone Cabin
Tiny Home is a term liberally banded around these days but this building is genuinely minuscule - barely 10 sqm. This design is packed with innovative storage solutions, particularly the bed. In such a tight space it would be shortsighted to squander nearly a third of the floorspace with a piece of furniture that isn’t needed for two thirds of the day. And with the bed being raised and lowered in a horizontal plane there’s no need to pack the bedding away or strap loose elements down.

Devon Saddler’s Shop
There’s just something about the challenge of finding space in the smallest of buildings. Here the bed deck is a perfect example of squeezing just a little, to give a lot. This area, if left to a contractor, could well have ended up as mezzanine joists simply boarded over.
There’s a comprehensive playlist of videos on Gemma’s channel and we’d wholeheartedly recommend subscribing.
