Treehugger

The Treehugger website was born to share ideas that could hopefully guide residents of planet earth to treat it slightly better, and as a byproduct having a more enjoyable time while here. It’s unsurprising that Treehugger’s founder, Graham Hill, went on to found LifeEdited - one of the pioneers in the transforming spaces community.

Timing was perfect as the upswell in enthusiasm and interest in tiny houses, small space living and miniature apartments grew across the internet and mainstream media.

Brera Apartment by Cesare Galligani

This 30 sqm apartment in Milan near perfectly sums up what’s possible with a vision and an open minded client. Basic materials and a focussed design by local architects Planair make for an airy yet cosy space.

This build was completed way back in 2013 but could just as well have been last week. See more detail and photos on the Treehugger article.

Accordian Module by IWI

Here’s another one of those ideas that seems so obvious, once you’ve seen it built. Designed by Ecuadorian outfit IWI, these modular pods are built off-site can be installed on the ground but their lightweight construction and compact footprint allow for a single crane lift onto even the most meagre of rooftops.
